Picking the Right Birth Photographer – Questions to Ask Yourself

Picking the right birth photographer for your baby’s birth can be a difficult decision. You want to make sure that you are choosing someone such as Lisa Phillips Photography who will capture all of the precious moments in an unobtrusive manner, but also does not do too much “posing.”

It can be hard to know what questions to ask when interviewing photographers. To help with this process, we have created a handy list of questions that you should ask any potential photographers before making your final decision!

It’s not easy picking the right photographer for your baby’s birth. You want someone who is professional, has the experience and will capture all of the memories that you are about to share with your little one. But how do you know which one is best?

Although everyone’s experience with their baby’s birth is different, there are some questions that you should ask yourself before hiring any type of professionally posed photos after your baby is born.

The right questions

Do they have references? What kind of reviews do they have online? Do they offer an inclusive package or multiple packages and prices to choose from? Are the photographers experienced working with newborn babies as well as older infants/toddlers?

Make sure it will be someone who can capture all those special moments – not just the first few days! Does this person make you feel comfortable throughout the entire process (before and even after)? If at any point you are not comfortable with the photographer, your experience will likely be less pleasant. How long have they been in business?

Can I get a contract beforehand to make sure that there are no hidden fees or last-minute changes in pricing/services offered? What kind of insurance do they carry for themselves and their clients? Are the photographers local (if applicable)?

Do you feel like this person is someone who can capture all of your memories on an important day without too much posing involved and still leaving you feeling beautiful and special throughout it all – even if things don’t go exactly as planned?

Candid moments

The candid nature of these portraits creates a feeling of being there. Even after your baby is born, you will want to make sure that they are well taken care of and getting all the attention they need. You don’t have time to worry about whether or not your photographer is doing their job properly because you should be focusing on what matters most right now – YOUR BABY! The creative lens of Lisa Phillips Photography allows us to be active participants in this exciting time, instead of just a bystander.
